So last week I posted about my first curry night without a beer for over 20 years, which actually might have been the first time in my entire life I have been out for a curry without drinking alcohol. Previous trips to an Indian restaurant would almost always include the lovely Kingfisher or Cobra if Kingfisher wasn’t available, but this time I happily enjoyed some lovely mineral water with my Dhansak.

I also posted about my alcohol free party experience shared with friends with whom I have shared many a Stella in recent years. Again I enjoyed some mineral water, while my wife showed her support with a bottle of red. Well since then I have been able to successfully check off 2 more of the beers I won’t be drinking this year

In the past, Kirin Ichiban has definitely been my favourite drink to have when visiting a Wagamama noodle bar. For my recent trip this was replaced with a wonderful flowering jasmine tea, which was really good with the ginger, beef and coriander salad. This salad was really tasty, with red onions, beansprouts, red peppers, cucumber, carrot, mooli, ginger, coriander and mixed leaves.

Then last night I was in a pan asian restaurant with Chinese, Thai and Malaysian food. If I was drinking it would have been tough to decide between the Tsing Tao Chinese beer or the Thai Singha. However, it was easy to choose some mineral water with my thai spiced steamed sea bass and pak choi.

I have to honest and say I am actually enjoying the extra energy I have so far this year, that I put down to 2 things, staying sober and drinking delicious freshly extracted juices. This morning I was in the gym at 6 am, then making a lovely avocado based smoothie for breakfast in my hotel room. There is no way I would have been doing this in December!

Next week I will be back in the Netherlands, where I will be enjoying my first Amstel free trip…
