2013 miles in 2013Regular readers will know that after completing a year without all alcohol in 2012 for Cancer Research UK and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, my self imposed challenge this year is to complete 2013 self powered miles by the end of 2013.

I am doing this challenge in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and so will keep my existing Just Giving page going for another year. I have been surprised since I started fundraising for the CF Trust just how many people are unaware of this disease and so I hope my efforts will not just raise money, but also awareness of the UK’s most most common life-threatening inherited disease.

The rules for my 2013 miles in 2013 challenge are quite simple:

  1. All miles must be completely self powered (no motors, sails, etc)
  2. I must be able to evidence all miles, either via GPS or with a picture of any static gym equipment

To complete my 2013 miles I will be running, cycling, rowing and who knows, I might even try a few other self powered methods along the way.

So, how’s the second month gone?

Well, I completed the Gloucester 10k with a finish time of 47 mins and 35 seconds, beating my personal best by roughly 3 minutes. As I sprinted across the finish line I couldn’t help but think that I could have done it quicker too! Oh, and I’ve done my longest run so far – 23.4 miles. Think I’m looking good for the Edinburgh Marathon in May :-)

In total, this month I’ve completed 200.9 miles (slightly less than last month, but there are 3 less days in Feb!). This months miles were comprised of:

  • 122.1 miles of running
  • 59.9 miles of cycling
  • 15.5 miles of rowing
  • 3.1 miles of walking
  • 0.3 miles of swimming

Clearly I walked more than 3.1 miles in the month, but these are the only miles than were done as “exercise”.

Added to my January miles, my total mileage for the year so far is 406.8 miles, broken down as follows:

  • 209.5 miles of running
  • 162.5 miles of cycling
  • 24.8 miles of rowing
  • 4.7 miles on an elliptical trainer
  • 3.1 miles of walking
  • 2.1 miles of swimming

Can you sponsor me?

The first person to commit to sponsoring my 2013 mile challenge pledged 1p per mile (£20.13 in total) and this got me thinking. I am hoping that as many as possible of those reading this will commit to do the same and the best thing is, if each person does this on a “pay as you go” type approach all you will need to part with is approx £2 just after each pay day. In February I completed 200.9 miles, so if you can please spare £2.01 to help the Cystic Fibrosis Trust it will be greatly appreciated.

If you didn’t sponsor me in January and you want to ‘play catch up’ then the total miles so far equates to a donation of £4.07.

The easiest way to give your sponsorship is to visit my Just Giving page:

Big thanks to all who are showing their support.
