2013 miles in 2013Regular readers will know that after completing a year without all alcohol in 2012 for Cancer Research UK and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, my self imposed challenge this year is to complete 2013 self powered miles by the end of 2013.

I am doing this challenge in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and so will keep my existing Just Giving page going for another year. I have been surprised since I started fundraising for the CF Trust just how many people are unaware of this disease and so I hope my efforts will not just raise money, but also awareness of the UK’s most most common life-threatening inherited disease.

The rules for my 2013 miles in 2013 challenge are quite simple:

  1. All miles must be completely self powered (no motors, sails, etc)
  2. I must be able to evidence all miles, either via GPS or with a picture of any static gym equipment

To complete my 2013 miles I will be running, cycling, rowing and who knows, I might even try a few other self powered methods along the way.

So, how’s the first month gone?

Well, I’ve completed a 5k race through Disney’s Epcot theme park, run barefoot along a beautiful beach in Florida and slid over and landed on my arse while running in snow and ice back here in the UK.

In total, I’ve completed 205.9 miles comprised of:

  • 87.4 miles of running
  • 102.6 miles of cycling
  • 4.7 miles on an elliptical trainer
  • 9.3 miles of rowing
  • 1.8 miles of swimming

I’m slightly ahead of target, let’s hope I can keep it up through February. Next stop, the Gloucester 10k next weekend.
